DATA INTEGRATION IN SOCIAL PROTECTION FOR REFUGEE POPULATIONS
For many refugees in Kenya, displacement has stretched far beyond the short term, with some having lived in the country for decades. Their needs go beyond emergency aid. They require access to education, healthcare, and livelihoods, just like anyone else. Social protection systems are designed to meet such needs, offering a safety net that supports people through life’s uncertainties. Yet, for refugees, inclusion in these systems remains a major challenge.
Despite Kenya’s sustained efforts to embed refugee inclusion into its national social protection agenda, significant barriers still stand in the way. Legal limitations, fragmented data systems, and a lack of coordination between humanitarian and government programs continue to exclude refugees from the support they need to live with dignity and security.
To unpack this issue and explore solutions, CHASP Advisory hosted a webinar titled “Data Integration in Social Protection for Refugee Populations: Innovations, Challenges, and Cross-Learnings from Kenya and Beyond.” The webinar convened government officials, humanitarian actors, digital innovators, and development partners to share experiences and ideas for advancing refugee inclusion through improved data integration and technology.
