POLICY BRIEF: SOCIAL PROTECTION FOR MIGRANTS AND DISPLACED PERSONS IN KENYA.

Africa hosts a significant population of refugees and migrants, many of whom have been displaced due to conflict, economic instability, and environmental crises. These vulnerable groups often face barriers to accessing essential services, leaving them reliant on fragmented humanitarian aid rather than integrated, long-term support systems.

While national social protection programs aim to build resilience and reduce poverty, they often fail to adequately include refugees and migrants, limiting their ability to rebuild their lives and contribute to local economies.

To address this gap, CHASP Advisory and Instiglio hosted a webinar titled “Social Protection for Migrants and Displaced Persons in Africa: Milestones and Challenges.” The webinar focused on the challenges, policy gaps, and potential solutions, highlighting inclusive policies in Kenya.

This policy brief summarizes key insights from the webinar on social protection for refugees and migrants, focusing on:

  • The challenges they face in accessing support
  • Existing policy frameworks
  • The integration of humanitarian aid and social assistance
  • The role of partnerships and results-based approaches in enhancing impact
