QUALITATIVE MARKET ANALYSIS AND COMMERCIALIZATION SUPPORT FOR SMALLHOLDER SWEETPOTATO PRODUCERS IN UGANDA

CHASP Advisory is providing strategic qualitative research and evidence generation support to the International Potato Center (CIP) and the Soroti Sweetpotato Producers and Processors Association (SOSPPA) under the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP)-funded project, Strengthening Productive Capacity and Resilience of Smallholder Sweetpotato Producer Organisations in Uganda. The initiative aims to improve the livelihoods of more than 20,000 smallholder farmers by strengthening market systems, promoting value addition, and expanding commercialisation opportunities across Uganda's Teso sub-region.

We are leading the qualitative analysis and reporting of market feasibility data collected from farmers, traders, processors, institutional buyers, and other value chain actors across six districts. Using rigorous qualitative research methods, we are transforming stakeholder insights into strategic evidence that identifies market opportunities, addresses barriers to commercialization, and strengthens linkages between producers and buyers.

Our findings will equip CIP, SOSPPA, and other stakeholders with practical, evidence-based recommendations to enhance value addition, strengthen market systems, and build more resilient and commercially viable sweetpotato value chains that improve incomes and food and nutrition security for farming households across Eastern Uganda.
